The annual Eid al-Fitr festival, marking the end of the Fast in the Ramadan-month was held at BelSU Centre for Intercultural Communication.
Students from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria prepared a rich creative programme that included folk songs, poems and dances. Many event participants wore traditional costumes and national headwear. The students also talked about the tradition to celebrate the First Day after the Fast in their home countries and illustrated it by a video.
Among the festival guests there were Valeriya Golous, the Deputy Chairman of BROO “Union of Officers”, Vladislav Kuchmisty, the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Valery Timofeev, the Chairman of BelSU Trade Union, providing the financial support for the event organization, curators of international students, the Russian and international students studying at the university.
Valeriya Golous welcomed the participants and congratulated with one of the most important Muslim holidays, wishing them and their families kindness, prosperity and well-being. Vladislav Kuchmisty cited the congratulatory message of Evgeniya Karlovskaya, the Acting Rector of BelSU, which she addressed to all the representatives of Islamic culture, working and studying at our university, and the partners. Valeriy Timofeev sang a soulful song as a gift to the student communities celebrating the holiday.
The evening was finalized by tasting traditional holiday dishes, sweets of Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Everyone could taste Tajik flatbread, Turkmen manty, Uzbek kovurma, Afghan pilaf, Algerian couscous, Arab style bamia, sweets from Jordan and Morocco.
Regig Issam, a doctoral student and the Head of Algerian Student Community, noted that the students had been very inspired by the event organization and cooking the dishes, since such events make it possible to introduce their unique culture and customs and make their voices heard.
