Universal and Russia-specific values were discussed at a meeting of international students with a representative of the Russian Orthodox Church held at the Coordination Center of Belgorod State University as part of the International Youth Interreligious Forum.
A meeting and discussion with the participation of international students on the topic "Russian civilization in the modern world" took place in the "Projectoria" Design and Educational Center at BelSU. The speaker of the discussion platform held in the format of an open dialogue, was the rural dean of the Rakitnoe district of the Belgorod Metropolia`s Gubkin Diocese, Rector of St. Nicholas Church in the village of Rakitnoye, Archpriest Nikolai Germansky.
In a dialogue with the priest, students brought into focus the unity of understanding universal human values. At the same time, young people who came to study at BelSU from different countries were keenly interested in Father Nikolai’s historical background for the formation of the “Russian spirit” and possible ways to protect their friends from the destructive ideology of Western civilization. Answering students' questions, the priest noted that it is quite difficult to resist unhealthy tendencies and convince anyone of wrongs.
– Convincing a person is a wasted effort. If a person does not want to listen to you, your main task is to strengthen your own faith, the strength of your own spirit, and this is what will give us all the opportunity to resist any destructive ideas,” stressed Father Nikolai.
The event was organized by staff members of the Coordination Center for the formation of active citizenship among young people, the prevention of interethnic and interfaith conflicts, countering the ideology of terrorism and the prevention of extremism at BelSU together with the university Center for Peoples' Friendship within the framework of meetings dedicated to the International Youth Interreligious Forum.
