A large-scale educational event dedicated to International Arabic Language Day was held in Belgorod for the first time, involving international partners of Belgorod State University.
The festival was opened by “The Language of Art” evening. It was attended by the representatives of Embassies and Rossotrudnichestvo, which revealed the beauty of the Arab world through the drama, poetry, music and vocal performances. Students from Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates prepared a diverse creative programme, and a classical dance by “Terpsichore Alice” group decorated the evening.
The event guest Mr. Wahib Mohammad Abdil Fath Karaji, the Advisor to the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, noted the increase of interest in Arabic language since it is spoken by about 400 million people in the world.
The festival participants were invited to test and expand their knowledge of the language, traditions and culture of the Arab world during the quiz, which was held by the activists of the Arab student community and International Student Office at BelSU Peoples' Friendship Centre. The most active participants were awarded with prizes from Mahmoud Darwish Centre for Arabic Language and Culture – USB discs and pens with the Centre's logo, as well as postcards depicting some Arab countries' sights and quotes of famous writers in Russian and Arabic, designed by Anastasia Petryaeva specially for the festival.
