An online lecture by a famous Egyptian diplomat was held at the Center for Arabic Language and Culture as part of “Etiquette of the Nations” educational project, launched by the Higher School of Protocol of Young Diplomats Board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Among the participants of the inter-university event there were students of Pedagogical Institute, Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations, Institute of Social Sciences and Mass Communications, activists of Peoples' Friendship Centre. They were remotely joined by the students from universities in Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg and other cities of Russia. The lecturer was Dr. Kamal Yousef, a Special Assistant to the Speaker of Egyptian Parliament and the Deputy Head of Protocol and External Relations Department from 2009 to 2012.
The lecture covered important aspects of Arabic etiquette in both business and domestic situations. The speaker highlighted the key points of verbal and non-verbal communication, contributing to rapprochement and mutual understanding between representatives of different cultures. Elena Nazarenko, the Tutor of Middle East Countries, emphasized the hospitality and friendliness of the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa, noting their tolerant attitude to possible mistakes in intercultural communication.
Ksenia Koroleva, the Head of the Department of Social Work of the Institute of Social Sciences and Mass Communications, noted the importance of such educational events for teachers and students.
The lecture was held in English, giving the students the opportunity both to learn the specifics of Arabic etiquette and to improve their language skills. The translation students Anna Boldyreva, Tatiana Planida, and Yana Lashina, guided by Elena Danilova, Associate Professor of the Department of English Philology and Intercultural Communication, provided accurate translation, making sure that everyone understood the lecture.
