An interdisciplinary group of BelSU scientists visited the VIII Russian Rare-Earth Day held in Nizhny Novgorod.
This year the annual representative scientific event brought together over a hundred participants from the leading Russian scientific centres. The forum was attended by the scientists of the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology – Olga Lebedeva, the Head of General Chemistry Department, Evgeny Selivurstov, an assistant of the Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, and Sergey Golovin, an engineer of Biological Education and Research Centre for Innovative Solutions.
Rare-earth elements, which are abundantly contained by our national ore, have huge potential. Their compounds demonstrate unique properties.
Scientists from Belgorod State University participated in the forum for the first time and presented the results of their research on specific compounds – layered double hydroxides containing ions of rare-earth elements. The scientists believe that these relatively simple compounds can replace complex organometallic structures in various applications.
