Peoples' Friendship Centre hosted a master class on making a Maslenitsa talisman doll.
“Local Lore and Linguistic Sketches of Belgorod Region” latest event in the series involving students from Russia, Afghanistan, Bolivia, Iraq, Colombia and Ecuador was dedicated to the traditions of Pancake Week.
Olga Lyutova, the Acting Director of Peoples' Friendship Centre, explained the similarities and differences between Pancake Week and Catholic Carnival, the symbols originating in Pre-Christian Russia.
Elena Ivashchenko, an Associate Professor of the Department of Theory, Pedagogy and Methodology of Elementary Education and Fine Arts, told about various dolls traditionally made on Pancake Day and held a master class on making a talisman doll.
Russian students of the Department of Preschool, Primary and Special Education of Pedagogical Institute actively helped the international students to go through all the steps of creating a doll. Thus, the students of the Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations, the Institute of Engineering and Digital Technologies and Preparatory Department have obtained a Russian hand-made souvenir and learnt many interesting facts about it.
