A roundtable discussion “National holidays of the peoples of Russia. The Dialogue of Traditions and Cultures” was held at the Public Support of the United Russia party Headquarters.
The event was organized by the Coordinating Center of the NRU BSU together with the University Peoples' Friendship Center. The roundtable discussion brought together Russian and international students from the Institutes of Cross-cultural Communication and International Relations, Engineering and Digital Technologies, Social Sciences and Mass Communications, the Institutes of Law and Medicine, as well as the Preparatory Faculty of NRU BSU.
Olga Valentinovna Lyutova, the Acting Director of the Peoples' Friendship Center, has emphasized the importance of the cross-cultural communication:
“Russia has a multifaceted culture that is formed by traditions and customs of all the peoples inhabiting it. Not only the peoples of Russia, but also foreign citizens, whose studies and work are connected with our country, influence the picture of the world, the picture of our country’s culture”.
In course of the discussion, the students spoke not only about holidays in modern Russia, but also shared some information about the history of celebrating Easter, Annunciation, Eid Festival, Sabantuy and other important holidays.
Students from Morocco, Ecuador, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan shared the peculiarities of the main holidays of their native countries, such as Nowruz, Eid Holiday, Eid al-Fitr, Semana Santa and Sagaalgan. The discussion on identifying similarities and differences in the national holidays of different countries turned out to be exceptionally dynamic.
Margarita Ivanovna Varfolomeeva, Deputy Director of the Coordinating Center of the NRU BSU, Candidate of Historical Sciences, spoke about the peculiarities of different holidays, as well as the similarity of traditions and customs in the cultures of different peoples.
“National culture determines the traditions of each nation, enables us to feel the unbreakable connection between different epochs and generations, gives an opportunity to get a life pillar, spiritual comfort and preserve peace!” – concluded Margarita Ivanovna.
