Educators from School of Mastology, a Priority-2030 Program project, created the Don’t Miss the Moment campaign with master classes on self-diagnosis.
With the main goal of raising awareness of how important it is to diagnose breast cancer early, project’s educators taught women methods for breast self-examination (BSE).
BSE master classes for Belgorod residents took place in various medical institutions of the city. Volunteer educators from the School of Mastology worked in five municipal clinics to make sure as many women as possible master this effective, inexpensive and simple screening technique.
At each master class, volunteer educators provided theoretical knowledge on signs and symptoms of the dangerous disease and ensured immediate practical application of BSE skills on breast phantoms. Participants learned how to properly palpate the mammary glands and when to consult a physician for changes in breast structure and other abnormalities.
In addition, educators handed out booklets and leaflets with concise information on how to prevent and diagnose breast cancer. With the knowledge they gained at the master class, it will be easier for women to monitor their health on their own, and they will know when to seek medical help.
‘A series of master classes as part of the “Don’t Miss the Moment” campaign in Belgorod clinics has become an important step for prevention of oncological diseases of the mammary glands. We do our best to raise women’s awareness of the need for regular self-diagnosis, which allows disease identification at early stages. Early diagnosis helps reduce the number of neglected cases and save the patients’ lives,’ said Anastasia Dobudko, deputy head of the School of Mastology project.
Anastasia also expressed her hope that after the master classes, the participant women would regularly conduct self-diagnosis and consult a physician for a comprehensive examination at the first signs of the disease.
