Belgorod State University is expanding cooperation with distant countries to build stronger partnerships in education and science.
BelSU delegation made a three-day visit to the Republic of Angola. The visit’s programme included a number of events aimed at strengthening and expanding the university’s ties, as well as attracting students from abroad. Led by Evgeniya Karlovskaya, Rector of Belgorod State University, the delegation included the director of the BelSU Institute of Earth Sciences Ignat Ignatenko as well as the director of the BelSU department for international cooperation Natalia Zhukovskaya.
At the meeting with the administration of Agostinho Neto University, Evgeniya Karlovskaya presented the Rector Angola’s major university Professor Pedro Magalhães with a Russian-Lingala-Portuguese thematic phrasebook. The work on the edition brought together linguists from Belgorod State University and university students from Angola and Congo.
During the visit, representatives of BelSU and University of Agostinho Neto signed a cooperation agreement.
Evgenia Karlovskaya also met Angola dwelling BelSU alumni. Since 2020, 28 citizens of the Republic of Angola have graduated from Belgorod University, and most of them studied various branches of Medicine. Today’s prospective students from Angola also express interest in entering BelSU programmes in digital technologies and international relations. This academic year, 24 students from Angola are studying at Belgorod State University.
In their homeland, BelSU alumni have achieved professional recognition. João Wilson, BelSU Medical Institute Class of 2017, heads the Children’s Oncology Centre. Nelson de Almeida, Class of 2012, currently heads a department at the Ministry of Culture. Batatela Armindo Augusto Gonçalo, Class of 2023, teaches at the Department of HR Management of the Crescent University High Institute of Polytechnic and Technology. Maria Vaneza Domingos, Class of 2019, works at the Services and Inheritance Department of the Espaes company. Carlos Kete, a 2014 graduate, currently holds the position of the BelSU Ambassador in Angola, heads the Research Centre and works as Legal Adviser to the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola.
BelSU delegates also had a meeting with Vladimir Tararov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Angola and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe. Trey discussed prospects for economic and scientific cooperation between the countries and the interaction of universities following the agreement the university signed on the first day of the visit.
Following the visit’s programme, BelSU delegates discussed the prospects for cooperation at the National School of Administration and Public Policy. BelSU rector noted that Casimiro Erinelto da Fonseca Joseph, a BelSU Institute of Economics graduate of the year 2015, was already working at the National School that provides training of civil servants in Angola. During the meeting, university representatives discussed possibilities for further cooperation.
