A multicultural event held this past weekend at the preparatory department of Belgorod State University aimed to showcase favourite student traditions in Russia.
Every year on November 17, the world celebrates International Students’ Day, honouring the unity and aspiration of young people for knowledge and new discoveries. A fascinating event held at the preparatory department allowed BelSU students from abroad to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Russian student life, and learn some of its bright and sometimes funny special customs.
Students looked at such the good luck tokens and rituals as "a coin in your shoe" and "Freebie, come" that exam-takers traditionally do on the important day or prior. They also paid attention to the tradition to sleep the night before exam with books under the pillow to better absorb the knowledge they contain.
Event organizers also entertained the participants with Interesting competitions. United into international teams, the students demonstrated their knowledge Russian while taking tall order and funny language activities, participating in quizzes and sharing their impressions of the Russian language and culture.
The atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding turned this cultural and linguistic journey into an unforgettable experience.
The head of the preparatory department, Arsen Martirosyan underlined the importance of such events.
'They not only introduce students to the cultural characteristics of Russia, but also help them to survive the adaptation period more easily. We strive to create a comfortable atmosphere for all our international students, which is the basis for further successful mastery of the educational programs,' noted Arsen Martirosyan.
