A major mixed-mode scientific and practical meeting of scientists and professionals from 35 regions of Russia and other countries brought together more than 1,500 people.
The three-day 17th International Scientific and Practical Conference Dentistry of the Slavic States took place at Belgorod State University. The event’s programme covered lectures, practical courses and various master classes. Besides, as part of the conference several leading universities of Russia: Central Research Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery, RUDN Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Kazan State Medical University, Omsk State Medical University and Belgorod State University initiated a round table that brought together educators to discuss the issues of teaching digital technologies in dentistry.
‘Digital technologies are increasingly spreading and used in medicine, including dentistry. The issue of their teaching and popularization in healthcare provides new means for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of various pathological conditions,’ said the Chairman of the Conference’s organizing committee, the discipline head for Dentistry at the BelSU Medical Institute, Honoured Doctor of the Russian Federation, Prof. Alexander Tsimbalistov.
Within the practical part, Elizaveta Chernovol, Cand. of Medical Sciences and Teaching Assistant at the clinical dentistry department of the North-Western State Medical University named after Élie Metchnikoff, conducted a master class on installation of A2 dental implants on polyurethane blocks. More than 20 doctors from the Belgorod region received practical training in the new technologies in dentistry.
The plenary session with Head of the department of paediatric dentistry of the BelSU Medical Institute, Honoured Doctor of the Russian Federation, Prof. Sergey Gontarev as moderator summed up the results of the conference. In his welcoming speech, he emphasized the importance of such events for the development of medicine in the country.
‘Currently, special attention is paid to the most popular areas of dentistry – endodontics, oral hygiene, and implantology. The great interest of the audience is confirmed by the fact that each of these events counted up to 500 participant specialists,’ noted Professor Gontarev.
The plenary session enjoyed the speeches given by professionals from different cities of Russia. Dentists discussed the issues of treatment, rehabilitation, shared complicated and interesting cases from medical practice as well as experience in using advanced technologies, artificial intelligence and neural networks in diagnostics and treatment. In total, the organizing committee received 245 papers, which were included in the collection published following the conference.
Summing up the evet, Alexander Tsimbalistov noted the high activity of the university community at the scientific forum.
‘This year, about 250 scientific papers from almost all universities in Russia were published in the proceedings of the conference. Dentistry of the Slavic States has made and keeps on making a significant contribution to the promotion of the latest achievements in the prevention and treatment of dental diseases,’ concluded Alexander Tsimbalistov.
