The general meeting of the Society of Regenerative Medicine took place during the 6th National Congress on Regenerative Medicine in St. Petersburg, attracting over a thousand scientists from across the country.
During the general meeting, members of the Society made the decision to expand the organization’s territorial scope by establishing regional branches. Sergey Nadezhdin, Cand.Sc. in Biology and Head of the Research Laboratory of Cellular, Assisted, Reproductive, and DNA Technologies at BelSU's Medical Institute, has been appointed as the head of the newly formed Belgorod regional branch of the Interregional Public Organization "Society of Regenerative Medicine."
Vsevolod Tkachuk, President of the Society and Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as Director of the Institute of Regenerative Medicine at Lomonosov Moscow State University, emphasized that the Society aims to unite teams working in regenerative medicine. This collaboration will facilitate regional and national scientific events, symposiums, and conferences for open discussion of advancements and challenges in regenerative medicine in Russia.
“Founded in 2018, the Society of Regenerative Medicine brings together fundamental researchers and clinicians who are pioneering a new direction in medicine focused on developing new human body structures and restoring lost functions. This is achieved not through traditional drugs but via cell therapy methods and gene delivery approaches that stimulate organ and tissue regeneration,” shared Vsevolod Tkachuk.
At the congress, leading Russian scientists, including Society members, presented their research across 18 thematic sections covering topics such as various types of stem cells, aging theories, reproductive health, nerve tissue regeneration, bone healing, innovative cancer treatments, immune system studies, gene therapy, and the creation of biological banks. Additionally, major Russian companies engaged in cellular and genetic research showcased their advancements in medical and biological technologies.
President Vsevolod Tkachuk also highlighted education as a key focus for the Society. It is crucial for both doctors and patients to understand the features, capabilities, and potential risks associated with regenerative medicine. Without public awareness, regenerative medicine cannot fully integrate into everyday life. Training specialists to produce and test biomedical cellular products is equally important.
Alongside Chairman Sergey Nadezhdin, BelSU is represented in the Belgorod Regional Branch by Alexey Solin, Professor at the Department of Human Anatomy and Histology at the Medical Institute, and Ekaterina Zubareva, Associate Professor at the Department of Biology at the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry, and Biology. The Belgorod Regional Branch also includes members from various educational institutions and both state and private medical service providers.
“The administration of the BelSU Medical Institute, in collaboration with the regional branch, is developing a program to advance regenerative medicine in the Belgorod Region. We invite doctors from various specialties and students interested in this field to join us in this endeavour,” commented Sergey Nadezhdin.
