Belgorod State University has launched a new drop-in and part-time daycare service for preschool children, aimed at supporting young students and teachers who are parents.
This initiative is made possible with the backing of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia as part of the All-Russian university competition titled “Help a Mom Study,” which was announced in celebration of the Year of the Family.
This facility represents a significant step in providing social support for young parents at BelSU, where currently 408 students and 105 faculty members are parents. The new daycare will offer convenient childcare options, allowing parents to attend classes or teach without worrying about their children. The space is designed for fun activities and safe supervision, staffed by university teachers and students from the BelSU Pedagogical Institute. All caregivers meet the professional standards required for childcare workers.
“I truly hope that our young mothers – students, teachers, and researchers – will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to leave their children in capable hands. Students who previously struggled to attend classes in person can now leave their children in our excellent facility, allowing them to focus on their studies and achieve outstanding grades,” said BelSU Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya.
Rector also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for its support.
During the event, Galina Pyatykh, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights in the Belgorod Region, emphasized that the students themselves – future educators – will soon apply their knowledge in practice, enhancing their future teaching careers.
The drop-in daycare can accommodate up to 15 children at a time. The mother-and-child spaces are equipped in accordance with current sanitary regulations (SanPiN) and feature the necessary furniture and equipment. The short-stay groups are also stocked with toys, teaching aids, and educational materials designed for pre-schoolers.
Archpriest Roman (Pivnev), Father Superior of the House Church of Archangel Gabriel at BelSU, remarked on the significance of the new facility.
