The rector of Belgorod State University Evgeniya Karlovskaya recently held a meeting with the university's ambassadors. This traditional event, which included the rector and the vice-rector for international cooperation, focused on evaluating the ambassadors’ efforts abroad and outlining strategies for promoting the BelSU brand in 2025.
Five current ambassadors – university graduates who advocate for BelSU’s educational services in their respective countries – attended the meeting. They included Luis Fernando Muñoz Andrade from Ecuador, Carlos Kete Jorge from Angola, Sun Xingyuan from China, Ahmed Mansour T.A. representing the Middle East and North Africa, and Dilshod Sabirov Shuhrat ugli from Uzbekistan. Additionally, two candidates aspiring to become ambassadors, Abhay Kumar from India and Ilkin Orujov Yusif oglu from Azerbaijan, participated in the discussions. The session was moderated by Vladislav Kuchmisty, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at BelSU.
During the meeting, the ambassadors shared their successes in attracting foreign students to Belgorod State University and promoting its initiatives. They also discussed plans to enhance the university’s international presence in the upcoming year. Notably, a centre for Russian language and culture is set to open at Agostinho Neto University in Angola, which will serve as a resource centre not only for Angola but also for neighbouring Namibia and Mozambique.
Furthermore, there are plans to strengthen the partnership between Belgorod State University and the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute (TashPharmI) by creating a joint training program “General Medicine” - a highly sought-after field among applicants in Uzbekistan.
In response to a proposal from Dilshod Sabirov, BelSU management agreed to draft a letter to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan. This letter will request that the existing joint program be included in the State Testing Centre’s platform to increase visibility for prospective students and simplify the application process.
As part of a trilateral cooperation agreement established last year, Sun Xingyuan and Dilshod Sabirov proposed creating a joint training program in Pharmacy that includes training at Dezhou University.
Belgorod State University is also embarking on an ambitious project to launch a new Russian language class in India. This initiative will be unique in that it will prepare future applicants for admission to BelSU programs taught in Russian, rather than English as is currently standard.
Vladislav Kuchmisty introduced participants to the university’s strategy for enhancing its presence in the global scientific and educational landscape. Among various initiatives outlined in the strategic document is the establishment of the Russian Economic School in Azerbaijan, in collaboration with UNEC University of Economics, as well as expanding partnerships with Al-Ma'mun University College and Al-Kut University in Iraq.
As Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya emphasized, 2025 has been designated as the “Year of Co-Creation,” building on the previous “Year of Partnership” at BelSU. The achievements of the university’s ambassadors clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of this strategic direction.
Evgeniya Karlovskaya highlighted an important upcoming milestone during her address to the university ambassadors: the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
‘I want to emphasize that this year, Russia and all nations that honour history will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It is crucial that you share this historical memory with the communities you engage with in your respective countries,’ she urged the ambassadors.
She also reminded them about the preparations underway for the 150th anniversary of the university and extended an invitation for their participation in the planned celebrations. Evgeniya Karlovskaya discussed the university’s initiative to compile a comprehensive register of graduates throughout its history.
In addition, 2025 will mark the first graduation ceremony for the Belgorod Institute of Food Sciences at Dezhou University, with a grand diploma-awarding ceremony scheduled for July. The Vice-Rector for International Cooperation encouraged the ambassadors to focus on fostering connections with alumni of Belgorod State University and to develop proposals aimed at supporting those who have completed their studies and are embarking on their professional careers.
With sincere appreciation, the ambassadors were recognized for their vital role in the university's development, reflecting their unwavering commitment while working overseas.
"I truly believe that together we can achieve significant milestones, and we will enter this year and the years ahead with results that will bring you pride and, of course, honor our beloved Belgorod State University," concluded Vladislav Kuchmisty.
