The recent visit of a delegation from the Belgorod National Research University to the Republic of Iraq represents a significant milestone in enhancing international relations between the two countries, paving the way for strengthened scientific and educational collaboration.
The delegation, led by Natalia Zhukovskaya, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, included Associate Professor Marina Droga from the Department of Russian Language, Professional Speech, and Intercultural Communication, as well as Mansur Ahmed T.A., a specialist from the International Information Centre and BelSU Ambassador to the Middle East and North Africa.
A highlight of the visit was a meeting with Naim Abed Yasser, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq. The meeting also featured Elbrus Kurtashev, the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, and Nadir Jassim Mohammed Al-Obaidi, the Attaché for Culture and Education at the Iraqi Embassy in Russia. During this discussion, both parties explored opportunities for developing bilateral scientific and educational projects, including student and teacher exchange programs and collaborative research initiatives. Special emphasis was placed on advancing joint projects focused on technological leadership and promoting the Russian language among Iraqi youth. These initiatives received strong support from both sides, laying the groundwork for a series of promising projects.
Additionally, a meeting with representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Culture resulted in an agreement to conduct advanced training courses for translators within the Ministry. Throughout the visit, BelSU’s delegation signed several key documents affirming their commitment to fostering long-term cooperation with leading higher education institutions in Iraq. Memorandums of understanding were established with Mustansiriyah University, Central Technical University, and Southern Technical University. These agreements aim to facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge across various fields of science and technology, as well as joint participation in educational programs.
A significant component of the visit was dedicated to Russian language courses conducted by Marina Droga at Al-Mamun University College. These classes garnered considerable interest from students eager to learn about the Russian language and culture.
Moreover, the BelSU delegation participated in the grand opening of the Russian Language Centre at Al-Kut University College. A week of intensive Russian language study was held there, resulting in many students expressing a desire to continue their studies and deepen their understanding.
