This year, the literary salon “Between Countries & Pages” kicked off its new season with an event dedicated to French-language literature, where participants recited lines from their favourite authors.
The traditional gatherings at the “Between Countries & Pages” literary salon, held at the BelSU Peoples’ Friendship Centre, celebrate significant dates in world languages. The first meeting of 2025, titled “Journée de la langue française” (The French Language Day), was organized in honour of the International Day of the French Language. Attendees included Russian and international students, schoolchildren, and teachers from Belgorod and the surrounding region, as well as lyceum students and their instructors from Senegal, participating both in person and via videoconference.
Olga Lyutova, Director of the International Information Centre, welcomed the participants with an inspiring message.
“Speaking foreign languages has become an essential skill in today’s world. However, one cannot truly master a language without engaging with its literature. It is wonderful to see so many book lovers gathered at our literary salon 'Between Countries & Pages.' I hope everyone enjoys the beauty of literary works in French today,” said Lyutova.
She also announced that future meetings will feature readings from beloved books in English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian.
Andre Barian and Daour Diouf, members of the Belgorod State National Research University Alumni Association from Senegal and current Russian language teachers in their home country’s lyceums, expressed their gratitude to Belgorod State National Research University.
Ivan Stepanishchev, chairman of the French Conversation Club at the International Student Office, spoke about the club’s regular meetings and encouraged all French language enthusiasts to join.
