Five Projects by BelSU Scientists to Receive Funding from the Russian Science Foundation

The projects submitted by Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) triumphed in several competitive categories, including initiatives for young scientists, research group projects led by emerging researchers, and the prestigious RSF “mega grant” competition for fundamental and exploratory scientific research spearheaded by prominent foreign scientists.

Led by Rustam Kaibyshev, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Head of the Laboratory of Nanostructured and Heat-Resistant Materials at BelSU, the research team will receive five years of support from the foundation. Their international project, titled “High-Strength Steels for Biomedical and Engineering Applications,” will be directed by Professor Ke Yang, a member of the International Union for Biomaterials Science and Technology and a professor at the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Notably, the RSF selected only three out of 27 projects submitted in this category, which featured leading scientists from 16 countries, including China, Germany, the USA, Great Britain, Turkey, and others.

Two BelSU representatives also achieved success in the competition for young scientists’ initiative projects. The project led by Evgeny Tkachev, a candidate of technical sciences, focuses on enhancing the performance characteristics of high-strength steels alloyed with silicon and will receive two years of funding up to 1.5 million roubles annually. Similarly, Ekaterina Mishunina, also a candidate of technical sciences, will receive equivalent support for her project aimed at developing a multicomponent chromium-based alloy designed for high-temperature applications.

Additionally, winners of the scientific group competition under the supervision of young scientists will benefit from three years of financial backing. Among these is a study led by Vitaly Sokolovsky, a candidate of technical sciences, which aims to investigate the structure and properties of alloys based on gamma-titanium aluminide. Another funded project comes from Ivan Nikitin’s research group, which will explore the properties of high-strength steel produced through selective laser melting, combining a martensitic structure with reinforcement from fine particles (dispersions) of various phases.

In a message shared on her Telegram channel, BelSU Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya congratulated the RSF competition winners and wished them success in implementing their projects.
