Excellence in Medicine: BelSU Surgery Club Team Triumphs at All-Russian Olympiad

This prestigious scientific competition took place at Tyumen State Medical University, where participants showcased their skills and theoretical knowledge over two intense days.

The Olympiad featured 12 competitions across four key areas of pelvic surgery: proctology, gynaecology, urology, and traumatology. In addition to practical surgical tasks, participants also engaged in separate theoretical competitions focusing on abdominal surgery, traumatology, and operative gynaecology. On the second day, an interactive event called “Table Pirogov” challenged competitors with questions related to the anatomy and topography of the pelvic organs.

After a gruelling competition and countless sleepless nights, the team of Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) achieved remarkable success, securing second place in three categories: “Theory in Traumatology,” Traumatology Stage II “Osteosynthesis,” and Gynecology Stage II “Cesarean Section.” They also earned third place in the Urology Stage I “Boari urethero-neo-cysto-anastomosis” category and in the interactive “Table Pirogov.”

The team consisted of talented students: Marina Bondarenko, Danil Dmitriev, Ivan Doronin, Evgeniya Dronova, Olesya Ikim, Valeria Kosinova, Alexandra Nikolaenko, Georgy Pinchuk, Nikita Rubanov, Ekaterina Rybtsova, Irina Chernyshenko, and captain Ekaterina Ababsakh. Chakar Amirkhanova, an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, accompanied the team as their chaperone.

The team extends heartfelt gratitude to their mentors and tutors: Andrey Yarosh, Director of the Medical Institute and Head of the Department of Hospital Surgery, and Igor Gerasimov, the club’s scientific director and Associate Professor of Hospital Surgery. Under their dedicated guidance, the team’s extensive preparation culminated in these well-deserved accolades.
