BelSU Brings Environmental Expertise to Siberian City

Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) employees have begun work on a major groundwater protection project in Berdsk, a city in the Novosibirsk Region struggling with persistent flooding. The initial phase is already underway: specialists have completed on-site measurements and surveyed the affected areas.

The collected data will feed into a mathematical model and hydrological map of the city, forming the scientific foundation for practical engineering recommendations. Preliminary proposals for draining the most problematic zones are expected by October.

The project covers six sites spanning more than 38 hectares. The core objective is ambitious but clear: lower the groundwater level to below two meters and maintain it year-round, protecting homes, infrastructure, and public spaces from water damage.
