During the press-conference leading pharmacology specialists, who works with laboratory animals, concluded that vivarium at BelSU Botanical Garden will be a new step to import substitution
The topic of animal testing got public attention after the decision to create a vivarium at BelSU. Director of Center of Clinical and Preclinical Studies Mikhail Pokrovskiy announced that vivarium will begin its work in 2016-2017.
“This laboratory will become one of the few officially registered laboratories in Russia. There are nine of them now”, – he said.
The simplification of medical products’ market introduction, which would be provided by the vivarium was highly estimated by the director of RusLasa host-company, head of Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry’s Puschino branch, Arkadiy Murashev.
According to his speech, the ideas of radical anti-animal testing movements, for the most parts, have no adequate background. Activists don’t understand that animal testing is a necessity for market introduction of the medical products.
According to the head of Zakusov State Foundation Institute of Pharmacology’s psychopharmacology laboratory Tatiana Voronina, there are no efficient analogues of animal testing nowadays. The majority of medical products for nervous disorders are impossible to study at the cellular level.
“BelSU vivarium is a great achievement. It is impossible to aim for the significant pharmacology studies without animal testing. Medical products can influence the organism in many ways, and without animal testing we are able to make an irrevocable mistake”, – she said.
Vice provost for the BelSU science and innovations Andrey Peresypkin announced, that vivarium will become a serious addition to the Belgorod pharmaceutical cluster. He has also assured the audience that majority of animals (mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs) would be raised specially for testing.
“Our region goes to the very high pharmacological level, and BelSU has a significant position in this work. For example, nowadays the center of clinical and pre-clinical studies is able to cause approximately 100 mln. of rubles a year”, – he said.
