The BNRU team has won the Regional 'GTO' Level 6 Event
All 9 universities from Belgorod Region took part in the GTO annual competition, which this year was hosted by BNRU. GTO (which translates as 'Preparedness for Work and Defence') is a government program designed to raise and assess the general level of fitness of the entire population and is divided according to age.
Sergey Dubentsov, Deputy Chief of the Department of Physical Education and Sports for Belgorod Region, and BNRU's Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, Vice-Rector for Cultural and Educational Affairs, commenced proceedings with a presentation for students who had fulfilled the academic standards set by GTO in the first term of this academic year. Then the physical tests began. These involved a variety of exercises including sprint and distance running, weight-lifting and gymnastics, target-shooting and swimming.
BNRU dominated in the Men's Individual event, taking all three steps on the podium. Kirill Nikulin took first, Vladimir Sergeev took second, and Ilimdar Arifov took third. In the Women's Individual event, BNRU's Irina Filippova occupied the top step, with students from Belgorod National Technological University taking the other two places. These results contributed to BNRU winning in the Team classification.
