Irina Agarkova, the Chief Infectious Disease Consultant in Belgorod region, a postgraduate student of Belgorod State University, told about the specificity of the 3rd registered Russian vaccine
The 3rd Russian vaccine against COVID-19 KoviVac has been registered. Irina Agarkova, Chief Infectious Disease Consultant in Belgorod region, a postgraduate student of Belgorod State University, told about the peculiarities of the new vaccine, noting that it differs from the two previous Russian vaccines, Gam-Covid-Vak and EpiVacCorona by the presence of a whole inactivated coronavirus strain while Gam-Covid-Vac and EpiVacCorona contain fragments of COVID-19 virus. “Inactivation” according to Irina Agarkova, means that the virus is completely killed, not viable. It is impossible to get sick when such a virus enters the human body. Therefore, the CoviVac vaccine is safe, like the previous two. It contains the full set of antigens of the COVID-19 virus, which contributes to strong and longer lasting immune development.
According to the specialist, mistrust of vaccination against COVID-19 is simply illiteracy. The specialist believes that the “do no harm” rule is fully observed by the Russian scientists who have developed vaccines against COVID-19, and stressed that it is impossible to kill this disease without vaccination.
“All vaccines that are widely used now and are included in the national immunization schedule were used for the first time. And we see only a positive effect from the massive vaccination,” said Irina Agarkova.
