National celebrations are a good tradition at Belgorod State University: over 4,000 students from 100 countries are currently educated at the university.
Belgorod State University students from the Indian community introduced one of their favourite festivals. The festival of Diwali, or the co-called festival of lights, which is generally celebrated in India, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil. The students decided not only to talk about the festival, but also to demonstrate the richness of Indian culture, so they organised a Diwali festival in a concert format.
The guests of the colourful event included university students of various foreign communities and the staff of the Dormitory No. 4, Victoria Platoshina, the curator of Indian community and Kristina Khabarova, the Director of the Centre for Intercultural Communication.
The concert hosts Gokulakkannan Parasuraman and Geeta Kshirsagar tried to create and maintain a festive atmosphere throughout the evening. The participants performed traditional and modern dances and sang folk songs. The dancers Vaishnavi Patil and Ritesh Tambe invited guests to join the performance by showing simple and popular choreographic elements.
At the end of the festivities everyone was generously treated to national dishes.
The participants admitted that the Diwali festival had brought a lot of positive emotions and pleasant experiences.
