The achievement comes amid an increase from 50 to 80 universities in the overall number of subject rankings.
Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) has successfully maintained its presence in four subject rankings published by the Times Higher Education (THE) international agency and has made its debut in a new ranking.
Recently, Times Higher Education released 11 subject rankings, five of which include BelSU. Olesya Serkina, a staff member to the BelSU Department of Monitoring and Analysis of Development Program Implementation, noted that the university has been featured in THE subject rankings since 2019. Initially, it was included in two subjects – Physical Sciences and Engineering. As of 2024, BelSU expanded its representation to four subjects with the addition of Medical and Educational Sciences, and by 2026, it aims to be ranked in five subjects, including Life Sciences.
In the Physical Sciences ranking, BelSU is positioned in the 1251+ group out of 1497 universities worldwide and ranks within the 30-52 group among 52 universities in Russia. In Engineering, the university has maintained its standing in the 801-1000 group among the top 1,555 global institutions, while improving its rank among Russian universities to the 12-19 group (previously 13-21 in 2025) out of 56 institutions.
The Medical and Health ranking continues to see growth, with the latest edition featuring 1,230 participants. BelSU remains in the 1001+ group globally (compared to 1,150 universities in 2025) and ranks within the 9-20 group among 20 Russian universities (previously 11-20 in 2025). In Education Studies, BelSU is placed in the 801+ group of the top 830 universities worldwide and ranks 11-12 among 12 Russian institutions.
For the first time, BelSU has entered the Life Sciences ranking, achieving a position in the 1001+ group out of 1,211 global universities. Among 18 Russian universities, it shares the 17-18 position with Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University.
BelSU Rector Evgeniya Karlovskaya expressed her thoughts on her Telegram channel, viewing these results as indicative of the growth of interdisciplinary teams at the university, where fundamental research is transformed into sustainable applied research.
